‘Pearl’ é uma película que pode ser compreendida por todos os espectadores, porém ao mesmo tempo é uma produção muito complexa. ‘Pearl’ é um filme bem atual, mesmo que seja ambientado em 1918. Pearl é focado em uma única pessoa, mas ao mesmo tempo aborda muitos temas. Esse é um filme que fala sobre saúde mental, visão de mundo, e a nossa própria idealização do que é uma vida perfeita, além também de abordar o assunto de relacionamentos com pessoas tóxicas.
Mia Goth vive Pearl com uma excelência que impressiona, e na trama conhecemos essa jovem sonhadora que vive sozinha depois que seu marido foi pra Grande Guerra, ela vive em uma pequena fazenda e cuida de seu pai que é idoso e cadeirante, enquanto sua mãe trata ela igual uma qualquer. Suas escapatórioas para tudo que vive são os filmes mudos.
Daily she lives the same tiring, boring cycle. She feeds the cattle, feeds her alligator, bathes her father, gives him medicine. Her life is monotonous. Her dream and goal was to be a famous dancer, but with this routine life she would never succeed. This vicious cycle, which she calls “life”, ends up taking deadly turns at a certain point.
The director Ti West delivers in this film a delight of melodrama, where terror is and is people’s own minds. He “cooks” the story of this main character, and walks through her anguish, dreams and goals. He delivers a color photograph that just goes to show the positive way Pearl perceives the world around her, and it all contrasts well with her messy life. Above all, she tries to be a good person, even if she knows there is something wrong with her.

Pearl’s attitudes are impulsive and emotional
It even gives us empathy for Pearl. Even because I believe she lacked emotional support.
The film’s soundtrack manages to “marry” her emotional expressions well. In ‘X’, she was quite obnoxious being elderly, but in this film her anguish and enormous anger is understandable. Even though I don’t agree with her attitude, I understand her feelings.
Verdict
‘Pearl’ is a prequel that adds experiences to this character. It has well-written dialogues and magnificent cinematography. A completely different genre of horror. Director Ti West’s third film is coming soon, ‘Maxxinne’.
